Our responsibility towards the environment
In both the development and distribution of our devices, we always make sure to act responsibly and in an environmentally conscious manner.
However, our responsibility for protecting the environment extends far beyond this, namely to the end of our devices' life cycle. Therefore, in Europe, we are committed to the EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), which ensures the environmentally sound disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.

What is the WEEE Directive?
The WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is a European Union initiative that regulates the safe and responsible collection, take-back, recycling, and disposal of all types of waste electrical and electronic equipment. It applies to all devices with a plug or battery.

What does the WEEE Directive include?
The WEEE Directive is a European law that imposes certain obligations on all EU member states, requiring compliance with these obligations to minimize the environmental impact of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) disposal. The directive contains strict requirements for the collection and take-back (including proper separation) of WEEE. It also includes provisions regarding recovery and recycling, as well as the environmentally sound and professional disposal of this equipment. This aims to ensure that significantly less electronic waste ends up in landfills in the future.

How does the WEEE Directive work?
The directive stipulates that manufacturers such as Dyson themselves bear the responsibility for the environmentally sound disposal of their electrical and electronic equipment until the end of its life cycle.

Why does this guideline exist?
On average, each person throws away 3.3 tons of electronic devices over the course of their lifetime. To protect our environment, we must therefore look for ways to act and live more sustainably.

What contribution does Dyson make?
At Dyson, we know that environmental protection is crucial for the long-term, sustainable growth of our company. That's why we place particular emphasis on protecting our employees, everyone involved in our supply chains, and the places where we operate. Dyson's corporate policy is clearly aimed at conducting all our business in a legal, ethical, and responsible manner.
Electronic waste is currently considered the fastest-growing waste stream – not only in the EU, but worldwide. Recycling and reusing old electrical and electronic equipment can help save the planet, boost the economy, and improve living conditions in general. Furthermore, electrical and electronic equipment can contain materials, parts, and substances that can be harmful to the environment and human health if disposed of improperly.
